Manual Therapy is a subspecialty in physical therapy. It is a clinical approach utilizing skilled, specific hands-on techniques, to diagnose and treat soft tissues and joint structures. The purpose is to produce any or all of the following effects: improve tissue extensibility; increase range of motion of the joint complex; mobilize or manipulate soft tissues and joints; induce relaxation; change muscle function; modulate pain; and reduce soft tissue swelling, inflammation or movement restriction.Seattle’s Elite Physical Therapy has one of only three Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapists trained through Maitland in the Seattle area. There are many skilled techniques included in manual therapy, the most common manual treatments include joint mobilizations and manipulations, massage, and muscle stretching and mobilization.
