Dr. Root’s Specialty Training and Techniques

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM is an instrument assisted manual therapy approach that uses hand held tools that provide a mobilizing effect to scar tissue and myofascial adhesions. This technique can help alleviate problems resulting from common soft-tissue injuries such limited motion, pain during motion, motor control issues and muscle recruitment issues.

Myofascial Decompression

Myofascial Decompression is also known as Cupping. It manipulates the soft tissue with a pneumatic pump and plastic vacuum cups that are placed on the skin. Cupping releases the fascia and muscle tissue underneath the skin and can be useful in the treatment of chronic overuse injuries.

Manual Therapy Certification

(MTC)

Manual Therapy is a specialized treatment approach that consists of hands-on techniques designed to mobilize joints, muscle, connective tissue and nerves in order to facilitate healing and restore function. It has been shown in numerous studies to be an effective and important component of treatment in a wide range of conditions, such as arthritis, tendinopathy (disease of a tendon) and back pain.

Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology tape is an elastic therapeutic tape applied to the skin to assist in the treatment of pain and disability from injuries. Kinesiology tape provides a compression or decompression of the affected areas, can alter the pain signals to the brain, and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin and decreasing inflammation.
